Sightseeing Day, June 28, 2011

Spent the day walking up, down and around Monaco. All is in a state of disturbance in preparation for the prince's wedding July 1 and 2.  No tours of the Prince's Palace. No wandering through various other buildings just to look at the amazing architecture.

That said, we did see a lot.  The Cathedral, where modern glass and ceramic art has been placed in many of the naves to echo the shapes, colors and designs of the stained glass.  Toured the Oceanographic Museum featuring a living Mediterranean reef aquarium and memorabilia from Prince Albert I's ocean research from the 1880's to 1920's.  Walked around the casino area and window-shopped the designer stores.

We walked the first mile or so of the Via Alpina today (sans backpacks), starting from the palace grounds and ending at our hotel.  We will officially start the trek tomorrow with a looong set of stairs heading up into the hills above Monaco.
