What We Do

CVRTI’s mission is to perform cutting-edge research in the field of cardiac function at the basic and translational levels. Hundreds of publications and millions of dollars in grant funding have arisen from our investigations. The knowledge we gain and communicate will improve our understanding of the mechanisms of heart disease and may contribute to improved diagnostic and treatment modalities. We are also committed to supporting the next generation of scientists by providing mentoring and research training to students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty to enable them to pursue scientific careers in academia or industry in areas focused on understanding heart function and fighting heart disease. Our multidisciplinary team of investigators includes physicians, bioengineers, physiologists, and computational modelers who apply an integrated approach to the following topics:
  • structural and functional remodeling of excitation-contraction coupling in heart failure
  • atrial and ventricular fibrillation
  • proteomics and epigenetics of heart failure
  • metabolomics of myocardial ischemia and cardiac arrest
  • mitochondrial function in heart disease
